Allegory of the Brain Wave

(A reflective entry upon the nature of the mind’s workings, inspired by Plato’s philosophies of Forms and his famous allegory)

The exploratory mind may at first obstinately rebel quietude but once the buzzing of chatter finds calm and the stillness imparts a subdued synaptic homeostasis, a hush emerges from grottos and caverns in the soul. A hush that beckons in seductive whispers the presence of shy Feeling and Intuition. Once the aggressive and surly workmen of Thoughts and Beliefs cease their rough demands and begin to tire, Feeling and Intuition gain the courage to cautiously materialize into the conscious realm. They perfume the air with the opiate mists of Daydreams and Fantasies. They enjoy the transitory liberty that Logic has granted them and so find cause for rejoicing. As sirens of inversed intent, they sing not to lead Logic and his sailors into shipwreck. Rather, they lullaby and lure the domineering and restless Logic into a gentle sleep as the Spirit floats ever more assured in the direction of its course upon their beautiful voices. Though, they are sure not to lead Spirit too far away from his navigation’s plans and do not disrespect his authority.

All that the Spirit is, all that the Spirit has become, all that the Spirit hopes and wishes for is within the harmony of the soul’s greatest synergy – Logic, Feeling and Intuition, Thoughts. Logic – the cantankerous and inveterate naval general who keeps his maps in his boots, in his graying beard, in his hat. He huffs and puffs during the impatient sleep he begrudgingly acquiesced to. Feeling and Intuition – the two sister apparitions that subtly close the door of the room where he slumbers return to the helm to momentarily guide the heart and its motives. Thoughts – wrap themselves up in their chambers and let dreams do Logic’s bidding.

The mind becomes porous as Spirit leaves the confines of the charted sea into oceans in clouds as all preconceived notions and mental constructs dissipate. Sensory absorption begins to inundate the mind with the sights and sounds of new awakening. Eyes see so much more. Ears hear so much more. What was lost while true perception was dulled by hard logic is rediscovered delighting in play with children in the clouds. Logic had the astigmatism of cold analysis and bore the distorted lenses of his own limited view. But Feeling and Intuition renewed the vision of the soul allowing for a more inclusive circumspection. As memories of wars against Time, as Reality shifts the vessel back and forth, Logic stirs and Feeling and Intuition begin to ebb into their mists, back into the sea. They bring Spirit back to buoy upon the water’s surface. Logic angrily returns to govern the mind’s helm with astonishing celerity and begins charting the soul’s advance again, ordering Thoughts to man the sails and keep watch for any threats upon the mast. And the chatter between them ensues. But the sweet melodies of those mysterious creatures who serenaded all the mind’s crew members into dreams still lingers in the air and even Logic, in his own way, secretly longs for their return.

I am an aspiring poet, novelist, musician, visual artist, and a die hard jazz enthusiast (partial to writing). I did not have a choice in the matter as both of my parents are creative to the core. Van Gogh beautifully painted the artist's portrait with his words: "The more I think about it, the more I realize there is nothing more artistic than to love others." I've made that ideal the primary catalyst for my work. Born as one of nature's esthetes, beauty is the goal of every song, every poem, every piece of art. Beauty that will touch the hearts and minds of others. I try to design my art to be healing and empathetic. I study and find intriguing people of all kinds, which informs a lot of my insights. I've drawn inspiration on the art of positivity, of spiritual uplifting from writers like Throeau, John Muir, Ohiyesa (Charles Eastman), the psalmist David, etc. Seeking a unique verve in my style, I make thorough investigations of all sorts of art and challenge myself to the hilt for the growth of my ingenuity. I am eager to share my musings with everyone here and wish to disseminate them. Thank you!
